I get where you're coming from, however there are various contexts where xdg-open simply doesn't work, the most obvious one being if someone accesses emacs over SSH. I personally wouldn't consider that scenario a bug. |

I ran into #94, but while I don't have an answer for why it's failing, I think it's wise to have a fallback link printed, just so there's a way to proceed.
