We had this flag to disable telemetry initially as a precaution, thinking that some users might have concerns over us collecting telemetry, even if no sensitive data is shared. This still might be true; but it also means that we lose visibility of the usage patterns, failure modes, etc. As a result, our pace of improvement for all users slows down.
Digger is meant to be used mostly in the enterprise context; we think it's a fair ask to pay if one wants to disable telemetry. Our tool is open-source after all; one can always maintain a fork if telemetry is a make or break concern while paying for the Enterprise Edition is not an option.
