The future of Kitematic

I noticed that the official Docker documentation refers to Kitematic as a "legacy desktop solution". This made me think, is Kitematic actively developed anymore? Also, the roadmap hasn't been updated in two years, so is Kitematic being deprecated?

I really like Kitematic's GUI, and Docker community really deserves a decent GUI on top of CLI. Would be a shame if Kitematic was just dumped and forgotten.

As of now Kitematic doesn't offer any of the swarm/compose feature that have been requested and our path forward hasn't been mapped out just yet.

Happy to see this issue come up and would be keen to know what the community would really want out of the future Kitematic

I absolutely love Kitematic, and was shocked to find out about its deprecation today.
Why would such a popular application be deprecated?
@igor-lemon dockstation looks really well done, and this thread is a perfect place to advertise alternatives. It would be a bit cooler if it were open source, but I can understand it being closed source if you were going to try and monetize it later on.

The Kitematic readme should probably be updated to indicate that it has been deprecated.

@jasonmcaffee Thank you. We have an alternative vision for make the app open source but we're also thinking how to monetize it or how to find some IT company who can sponsor our development.
Because we've many unrealized ideas and features but we can't do it full-time.

It doesn't really seem deprecated if it's still in the dropdown list for Docker for mac (not sure about Docker for Windows) so I'd like to think that Kitematic just needs some love ❤️

Kitematic is included in Docker for Mac, so it is weird that that message would say to use Docker for Mac instead.

I don't understand how it worked for me until yesterday, and now I got the "VirtualBox is not installed. Please install it via the Docker Toolbox" error message, without changing anything. I only restarted the computer.

Reinstalling it fixed the issue (#4265 (comment)).
