For context, I am:

  • relatively new to F#
  • have 0 prior .net experience
  • not using visual studio (rider/emacs)
  • not typically a windows dev
  • typically targeting .net core
  • the type of learner who follows along with sample code in language references

so this might be more of a me issue than not, but I was absolutely unable to get my environment set up to run the examples here, running into things that seemed to point at dotnet/fsharp#3303, fsprojects/FSharp.Data.TypeProviders#21, some sort of infinite wailing GAC pain, or alternately at issues with TLS versions that appear like they should be resolved, but without finding workarounds that ... worked .

The example(s) in the docs themselves seem pretty fine to me for what they're showing, but depending on how heavy these docs want to lean towards being a reference to people coming very fresh to the .NET ecosystem through F# it might be worth doing a pass on the presentation / expression of prerequisites here.

Assuming that happens, I'm happy to be a guinea pig for changes. If I had reached a point where I was able to play around here I'd have submitted a PR instead of this issue, but alas.
