Should there be a section for this? Or is it better to just link to specific github projects directly?

Since you ask, my suggestion is either put activist orgs in their own document ORGS.md, or leave them out. It's great that there are lots of activist orgs on github! But I'm not sure what the value in maintaining a list (beyond this issue!) would be?
