What did I do

Scenario 1) Open the app, get prompted "New Version - Update available: V1.10.0" Click NO, it tries to update anyway & fails. (App is still usable - does not crash)

Scenario 2) Open the app, get prompted that there's an update, click "Install" it closes the app and opens "MQTTX Setup" Select "All users" Click "Next" then goes through the "installing" process and fails at approx 40% with the error "MQTTX cannot be closed. Please close it manually and click retry to continue. (checked task manager, There are two processes, MQTT Setup and MQTT Desktop client. Force close the client & click "retry" on the install, it fails with same error. Force close the other process "MQTT Setup" and the installer closes.

Scenario 3) Reboot PC, download MQTTX-Setup-1.10.0-x64.exe installer - install fails exactly as Scenario 2

Scenario 4) Reboot PC, go to add/remove programs select MQTTX click uninstall - uninstall box opens and then error "MQTTX is running. Click OK to close it" - this then times out with error "MQTTX cannot be closed. Please close it manually and click Retry to continue"

Checked with process explorer, definitley no MQTTX processes running or for that matter any processes running from C:\Program Files\MQTTX\ folder

What happened

As above

Click Install should install without complaining and erroring

Environment

Hello,

Thank you for your detailed feedback. Since you are currently using version 1.8.3 of MQTTX, which is quite old, we have significantly optimized the automatic update process in newer versions. The large version gap might cause some conflicts. Therefore, we recommend manually uninstalling the old version completely and then downloading and installing the latest version from https://mqttx.app

Please follow these steps:

  1. Using the Task Manager, ensure that no MQTTX-related processes are running. If you find any related processes, please manually end them.
  2. Delete the MQTTX installation directory (usually located at C:\Program Files\MQTTX\).
  3. Use the Registry Editor to clean up any MQTTX-related registry entries.
  4. Restart your computer, download the latest version from https://mqttx.app, and run the installer as an administrator.
  5. Try installing MQTTX in a different directory, such as D:\MQTTX.

Thank you!
