Just a wee thought, Wordpress and its ecosystem may be stuck on older versions of jQuery :(. Buts lets investigate!

Yes, seems like that could be too much of a hurdle to overcome for now. Let's just remove the local jQuery from our assets/package.json as that's not used anyway.
