I came across some comments this week, some people frustrating about the time it takes when PRs and issues are closed. like #670

Also looking add the oldest PR is from July 2017.
The number of downloads are rising as the number of issues and PRs as well.

I think we can conclude this repo needs some more moderators to handle the issues and actively approve/merge PRs.

There are a lot of people contributing nice work and put hours of work in in, I think it's nice to keep up the nice work and improve this awesome project 🔥🚀

Let me know what you think.

There hasn't been a lot of recent activity, although the site was redesigned, so it looks like the project is not abandoned. And @colebemis (the maintainer) often replies when it's not about adding icons. We need to know why.

Hi there!

Recently I came across the project issues because I was wondering about

  • the amount of icon requests
  • the status of the project

since I really like this icon library but I miss some icons like start/stop sharing a screen or the pushpin requested in #407 and proposed at #626.

Indeed, there are reasons to think that the project is alive, like the mentioned site redesign (I didn't know about it) and the last commit adding new icons, which happened 17 days ago according to the git history (see #568).

However, the CONTRIBUTING file, which likely is outdated, states that

At the moment we are not accepting pull requests containing icons. The best way to contribute an icon is to create an issue with a screenshot and link to an SVG of your icon.

and even has a (broken) link to a roadmap section in the README file which was removed a few months ago

The roadmap was out of date. Let's track future work using GitHub issues instead.

To me, that commit message seems to be another good symptom of the project status.

But, back to the icon requests, is true that there are a lot of nice contributions shaped as issues and PR's, so probably @ericfennis is right and the project could get nice community improvement. However, I don't know how difficult/time consuming could be to review them and check that a proposed icon fits with the guidelines.

That said, it would be great to know a little bit more about the real project status.

Last but not least, thanks A LOT (both, the owner and all the contributors) for this simply beautiful open source icons project.

Hi, everyone. I'm happy to see that so many people care about this project and want to contribute ❤️

The quality of the icons is my top priority so I like to thoroughly review every icon before adding it. "Less but better" is one of my guiding principles. Unfortunately, between school and work, I don’t have a lot of free time to review the overwhelming number of pull requests.

I'm looking for more icon designers to help me design new icons, triage requests, and review contributions.

@colebemis Its great to see that you still want to keep this project alive. I'm curious how you'd like other designers to help? I've contributed a couple icons and have some others that I'd like to submit, and I have done my best to strictly follow your guidelines, while only bending them in cases where there was no other option as well as in ways that I've noticed other icons in this set have bent them.

I'd like to submit a couple others, but I haven't wanted to overwhelm you with more requests. I'd like to know if there is anything I can do to help with maintaining/contributing in a way that could reduce the load while still making sure everything is up to your standards.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help!

@colebemis I'm in for some help in designing and growing the library (Figma user)...how can someone help?

Thanks!

@colebemis Have been helping out on the project since June of last year. I have lost access to my old GitHub account (@johnletey) due to 2FA problems, but I managed to open 20 PRs. Would love to become a member of the project.

Thank you all for your replies.
Nice to see that people want to help and reach out a hand. 😎
I want to help as well!

@colebemis To continue this I think there are enough people who want to help, I understand that it is hard to set this step to assign more maintainers and other members for helping out, but I think it's the right time now otherwise the project will maybe die.

Hey all 👋

@locness3 and I have started @featherity (Feather + Community 😄).

I'm working hard on deploying the current icons to our own packages, so that we can get our fork up-and-running.

Feel free to pitch in and contribute icons, and anything else you can help out on! 🎉
