Not working in Cura 5.1 #23
Comments
Ekaborating on this, I believe Cura 5.1 has the same issue that was already reported with the beta. I, too, can see one black dot that won't move in any way. |
Not working in Cura 5.2.1 as well, so it seems to be based on a breaking change in Cura. Hope you find the time to look into this, your tool looks so awesomely helpful ;-) and there's really no other way to measure distances it seems. |
Please try the following:
There is an ongoing issue that sometimes Cura will think that it has installed a plugin, but "forgot" to put the files in place. Uninstalling, restarting, reinstalling and restarting again (in that order) fixes that. |
Will try that, thank you. However the tool is showing in Cura, and the dialog where you can change the units is opening just fine, too. Even the initial black dot shows, however it cannot be moved nor does a left-click set a second dot. So the/some files must be in place. It seems rather that my UI actions won’t be recognized by the tool. So does the tool generally run in Cura 5.1 or 5.2 for you? That would be important to know. Will try your suggestion when in office and keep you updated. |
Sorry, my previous reply was rather unhelpful because I did not fully read your message and I jumped to an incorrect conclusion. There should be little to no use in performing the steps I suggested (but it should not hurt anything either). The Measure Tool works as expected for me on all supported version (from the top of my head that is Cura 4.0 all the way to 5.2.1). So we are going to have to find out why it is not working for you. What OS do you use, and do you use a version of Cura downloaded from the Ultimaker site, or another version? |
I am using Windows 10 (German version with US UI). I got Cura from Ultimaker. I‘ll post the log once I am in office asap. Many thanks for looking into this. just to make sure it is not something stupid on my end: when selecting your tool, the „black dot“ should be movable by dragging, and a second „dot“ should be settae by clicking into the model, correct? |
After activating the measure tool, you should be able to click anywhere on the model to place a dot there. Normally you move the dot that is closest to the mouse pointer, but you can press and hold the shift key to force moving the other dot instead. |
Here is the log info:
I do notice a couple of warnings regarding a plugin folder however don't understand what it wants to tell me. |
This looks like a partial log. Please post a link to the full file instead. |
I am sorry. I just cleared the log, then did a full restart. I noticed some warnings about not being able to create folders so I launched with full Admin privs. Here is the full log:
|
side note: launching with full admin privs, makes no difference in tool behavior. |
side note: launching Cura with admin privileges is generally not a good idea because it will lead to situations where Cura can not write to certain folders. |
There is nothing overtly suspect in these logs. It would be helpful if you could post another set of logs where you actually activate the measure tool and click on a model a couple of times. |
Actually I did that while creating the log I posted. Nothing else showed up in the log. I‘ll try again, and I‘ll do a fresh install on a different machine to see whether it repros. |
Is there a verbose mode for the log that I should turn on? |
In the logs I see that you are in the "Preview" tab. The measure tool does not work in the "Preview" tab, only in the "Prepare" tab. Does your Cura start up in the "Preview" tab? |
If switching to the "Prepare" view fixes the issue. then this is a duplicate of #22 |
I am in Preview mode, so it is not that. Here's the log from that new machine:
|
No, that is exactly the problem. The Measure tool does not work in Preview mode. Never has. You can only measure in "Prepare" mode. See #22 |
I am sorry for any confusion then. Maybe this should be mentioned in the description here at github then? I honestly did not know that. |
No problem. Often the biggest part of fixing an issue is finding out what the issue actually is. The measure tool icon in the toolbar should disable itself when you switch to the Preview tab (or "stage" as it is called internally). Does it do that for you? If it did, that should make it a bit more obvious that measuring does not work in the Preview tab. |
That’s what confused me: the tool is available, and it shows the „black dot“ in the model. |
I just installed the tool, and either I did not get how it works, or it is broken. I am using Cura 5.1.
I can see the tool icon in the left sidebar, and when I click it, it opens a panel where I can set the unit.
However, whatever I try, I cannot get to select points. Maybe I just don't do it right.
If selecting points is not just a matter of clicking into the model, can you please add a helpful line in the description? And if it indeed is broken in Cura 5.1, is there a chance that it will be fixed?
Many thanks for your awesome work, the tool looks very promising!
