Wikipedia defines a Special Interest Group as

A Special Interest Group (SIG) is a community within a larger organization with a shared interest in advancing a specific area of knowledge, learning or technology where members cooperate to affect or to produce solutions within their particular field, and may communicate, meet, and organize conferences.

Not one to love citing the wiki in the sky as a primary source, but we seem to fit all the qualification questions:

• Shared Interest in a specific area: Advancing Compliant DevOps processes in our orgs
• Members cooperate: Great participation already
• Produce Solutions: We can only hope!

The key question to me, "Is this a working group or a Special Interest Group", right now, we seem tightly scoped enough to be a SIG, with perhaps a path to WG later. If someone can find more official LF program differentiation of a SIG vs a WG, you're google-fu is better than mine!

In light of that, i'm 👍 to proposing this as a SIG

Please find below the FINOS definition of a Special Interest Group (SIG) that I've highlighted from the following FINOS Governance document - https://github.com/finos/community/blob/master/governance/README.md

Special Interest Groups

Special Interest Groups can be proposed by any FINOS Member (and only by FINOS Members) and are approved by the Governing Board, which also appoints the initial SIG chair. Over time the SIG can decide to vote in a new Chair or the Board can appoint one. Read more for a list of current SIGs and how to propose a new SIG.

Community Governance

FINOS also hosts Special Interest Groups (SIGs) which are forums where community members sharing an interest in a certain topic discuss ideas, compare experiences, and consider common solutions (which may or may not take the form of new open source software or standards projects).

All FINOS projects and SIGs are expected to observe the FINOS Collaborative Principles, Meeting Procedures and recommended to follow Branding Guidelines.

Comparing the FINOS definition to @jbjonesjr's wikipedia definition, FINOS SIGs aren't obliged to produce physical materials and can keep the scope to sharing thoughts and experiences only.

If a SIG decides to produce physical materials, this can be done within the SIG or done as an independent project created as a SIG recommendation.

In order for everyone to help facilitate informed voting, @mcleo-d can you please share the implications of this decision (vs not going in this direction)?

The implications of creating a DevOps Mutualization Special Interest Group is that the group will be recognised by the FINOS board and will be provided with access to the FINOS community, the mechanisms and infrastructure to operate and the platform needed to distribute future potential work.

Without the above, DevOps Mutualization will not be housed or supported by the foundation.

Can I suggest to name the SIG "Regulated DevOps" or "Compliant DevOps" or even "RegDevOps" and just drop mutualization? Meaning it's kinda obvious we're looking to mutualize, we're an open source community :)
