@okrad, related to your Papaya - rii-mango issues, this experimental DICOM viewer might be of interest to you:

_That viewer is nothing as advanced and as powerful as Papaya and by no mean an alternative solution._

Please note that the purpose of this library is 3D mesh/volume visualization on the contrary of Papaya that is focusing on 2D volume visualization as far as I understand it.

It is very fast as it is a pure WebGL implementation based on THREEJS, Cornerstone and Papaya.
Please feel free to give it a try/report bugs but the API is not stabilized at all yet are we are still investigating things.
