Issue with -my- wikijs ping and homepage reporting 500

Hi, I am starting this discussion to solicit help from the community. I have homepage up and running in a docker container and the ping feature works for all my services except for one: my wikijs container.

Initially I thought it was related to the fact that it ran on the same port 3000 and filed an issue: #1960 which was rightfully closed as non-reproducible.

I have since figured out my issue is not related to ports as I have changed both the port for homepage and wikijs however the issue persists.

I have set the LOG_LEVEL in homepage to debug and monitoring the log file there is no log related to the 500 I see on the page:

My wikijs is currently running on port 3001, if I change the ping setting in my services.yaml file to be an invalid port, I do see the error in the homepage log. For example here is my setting the ping port to 1234:

Reverting the ping port back to 3001, and reloading the home page does not yield any 'debug' logs at all.

I am able to verify from inside the homepage container that the wikijs container is responding at the ping URL:

Here is a similar check for my portainer container:

I am using --head because it seems the ping code tries to use HTTP method HEAD

I need help on where to go next in my debug. I am assuming that somehow the response from my wikijs container is not good but I can't pinpoint how.

Hmm, Im guessing this is not the issue but in the screenshot above the logs show you trying to connect to wikijs on port :1234, Im assuming your config has the correct :3001 ?

Is there a way to get more debug information out of Homepage? Is there a trace LOG_LEVEL?

No. But if youre really curious (I am), you could run it from source and try to explore a little. My gut tells me the issue is not actually inside homepage though, its such a simple bit of code just making an http request

One other thing I noticed I havent recommended is to completely remove and recreate the containers and the network.

Is there a way to modify the source from inside the container to add additional debug prints?

yes, though its not trivial to do so because the code is compiled and minified. If you want to do it, Id modify source and build the image.

But honestly in this case Im not clear how helpful it'll be, there has to be something rather specific going on here and theres not much to debug in homepage since its just an http call.

You could also try a few random older versions and see if they work, in case some change is relevant.

It's tough since I cant reproduce this against wikijs it makes me pretty convinced theres something more specific going on

Yeah I agree it is something very specific to some configuration or environment related to WikiJS. I tried recreating all the containers/images/networks from scratch and this is still the same

Ok mystery solved. It seems that the WikiJS container did not like HTTP requests which were missing the 'User-Agent' header.

It all started working when I changed the code in ping.js to be:
