Context Integrate SSH Gateway into VS Code Desktop to bring Gitpod users a more stable and reliable desktop experience .

Value More stable connections, no longer a reliance on local companion process or generated keys
Acceptance Criteria - Current SSH method is removed from VS Code and replaced with SSH Gateway
- No impact on users on self-hosted who require the current SSH implementation

Latest Update 04.05.2022 - Descoped API's (moved to issue: #9757) and reduced to SSH Gateway within scope. Work has now started.

Decreased scope to only SSH gateway integration.

Moved API integration for VS Code Desktop to separate epic: #9757

New version of gitpod-desktop published with ssh gateway connection, @loujaybee should we close this?

There are still some improvements to be made regarding the UX here, and the feature is still behind a flag in user settings in VS Code, however I'd suggest remaining issues can be treated as regular bugs, and tracked against:
