While working on a laptop with no numpad, its really hard to switch to left/top/front view since I can't press 7/1/3 on the numpad. I can turn numlock on and off, but it really slows down.

Blender has this option to emulate a num pad, which turns the normal number keys into num pad keys. So can press the numbers in the top row of the keyboard and switch views easily
