OK, so this was a bit of a cluster that needed sorting out. Essentially the font is based on Noto Sans and built with AFDKO, then converted to UFO, rebuilt as a variable TTF and then had a number of tables overridden with the original tables from the So I took the TTF binaries provided and rebuilt the sources as One note – I purposefully changed the name of the font from |
removing other CJK subsets

Hello, the author of Chiron Hei HK here. Thanks for the work in bringing it to Google Fonts. Is there anything I may do on my side to streamline the process? It looks like updating to a new version will not be easy, actually there's a newer version that hasn't been pushed to the repo. Also, does the need of doing "corrections in the metadata" and fixing "interpolation errors" indicate there's something wrong with the build? |

Thanks for the follow up. I'd like to write a bit on the build process of this font, and hope this can clear things up a little.. This font is based on Noto Sans CJK (Source Han Sans). Instead of modifying directly on the source files and save it as my project, I maintain a list of "what I'd like to modify from the upstream". Every time the font is built it all starts from Noto CJK, including the glyph set (in
The intention is that whenever a new version of Noto Sans CJK is released I just need to download it and build from the new upstream source files and my font will have all fixes and updates from the upstream. A special version is needed for Google Fonts because the original font contains a custom axis that isn't in the axis registry, but the process is the same. I understand that the need of replacing font tables exported from the CFF2 VF file after building the TTF increases complexity and raises uncertainty, so I've tried working on a better solution and have updated the repo with one major change - the master UFOs are now produced from the master OTFs using the The above notes can also be applied to its Serif counterpart, Chiron Sung HK. |

@emmamarichal, From the name ID issue, I think yes, Marc seems to have concluded. We need to confirm we have the green light to continue with it. Now, IIU currently the font has other issues at the source/glyphs level that need to be solved. |
