claude mcp add knock -- uvx knock-mcp serve --repo . --toolset map

knock v0.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@HasanGilani HasanGilani released this 02 Nov 07:00

First release on PyPI. knock gives AI coding agents like Claude Code a code map and a memory of your codebase, served over MCP. It runs locally and needs no API key.

Install

claude mcp add knock -- uvx knock-mcp serve --repo . --toolset map

Needs uv. Without uv: pipx install knock-mcp, then claude mcp add knock -- knock serve --repo . --toolset map.

Highlights

  • map / open / remember: a 3-tool MCP surface. map returns the functions that matter for a task, exact line ranges, who calls what, and why the code changed (from git history).
  • Local, incremental index: about a minute or two for ~5,000 files, with zero AI calls. Changed files are re-indexed automatically before each answer.
  • Memory with freshness: findings saved with remember are flagged stale when the code they cite changes.
  • Measured in real Claude Code sessions: on Saleor (4,776 files), median cost of an investigation was 40% lower over 8 runs per side ($0.42 → $0.25), with 8/8 correct answers on both sides. Full method and caveats are in docs/benchmark.md.

Fixed in this release

  • On a fresh install, a map request that arrived before the first index finished returned "No matching code found". It now waits for the index, or says it is still running.
