Brainstorming user needs

Nate Smith edited this page Apr 5, 2017 · 1 revision

Primary user groups

  1. Smartphone user with a mobile OSM editor application installed (Maps.me, OMK, or other editing application)
  2. Mapping manager; organizes mapping within OSM

User needs discussions

From discussion with HOT field data collection managers in Indonesia, Tanzania, Liberia, Turkey.

Key goals (goals of the dashboard):

  • Encourage getting outside to contribute local knowledge
  • Incentivize local mappers to continue to edit and contribute
  • Encourage quality editing

Needs (ideas for what needs to be communicated):

  • Needs to...
  • Not always needs stats
  • Want to see the area covered, in addition to number of features mapped
  • Need to know quality
    • Capitalization, lower case names, etc
  • Need to know how many new users
  • Need to know how long people stay mapping/number of contributions
  • Need to give feedback to new people
  • Need to know the completeness of the features capture
  • Needs to allow offline, analog collection
  • Needs to have a simple/restricted data model (maybe max 5)

Functionalities (ideas for how the needs can be implemented):

  • Allow a user to explore areas of where people are editing versus where there are gaps
  • Maybe allow to join as teams
  • Gamification through teams or friends
