I'm not sure if this was happening before, but Tactics Ogre shows square frames in place of a transparent blur effect when spells are casted:

Added an image showing how the spell should look. It's taken from youtube actually: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRd2IzMrsEo

It can be seen at 05:15. It's basically the same with the difference that the square box is replaced by some blurry effect that is transparent.

Who knows, maybe this could fix all the transparent textures issues in the Persona games...

As suspected, this has been fixed by the Persona fix. #1793

Spell effects seem to work correctly now. The only annoying thing is the rather frequent stutters and mini-freezes even if the emulator can then maintain a fast speed. But this is an issue common to ALL games. I wonder if I should open an issue about it.

Do you have texture scaling on? That will cause stutters in games that reload textures a lot, like most PSX ports.

Ah, you are right. It goes away with texture scaling off. I thought I tested that.

I wonder if there isn't some way around it like some kind of cache? It's quite annoying and it happens in some form pretty much on all games I've tested.
