Issue with your 585-point map #6
Comments
Isn't this the map originally made by Steven Roy? See here: http://dungeonsndigressions.blogspot.com/2009/05/steven-roys-beauty-of-map.html It wasn't drawn by the original Zork people. |
Mine is the original map from the devs. I just cleaned it up using photoshop and added the missing puzzles. I also upscaled it so I could print posters and frame them.

I also have a cleaned up copy of the 585 point version if anyone wants that.

Hello Jeremy, I don't mean to be rude, but your map matches the one that was created by Steven Roy according to that blog. Since I have looked into the history of Zork, I have an interest in this. What is the original source of your map, before you cleaned it up? |
20 years ago I found a nicer than average copy of this map on an interactive fiction website. It was high res.
I combined the two halves and have worked on and off over the last 20 years... Mostly off, but I been cleaning it and fixing the text, and adding the places missing for the 616 point version in a way that matched the original design. I have many many versions of this map because I have saved it about 20 times as I made the changes. So I still have every stage of the cleanup effort. I also have the old 585 point version equally cleaned without the added places.
This has been a labor of love really. And I'm happy to see anyone else that has an interest in it.
I have printed a few copies and put them in 36x24" frames. Even sold a few.
I saw your page here and thought you might be interested also.

Thanks. Maybe I should clarify I'm not the owner of this repository. That's @jclaar. My interest in this comes from working on MIT's Incompatible Timesharing System. One of MIT's PDP-10 computers was the birthplace for Zork/Dungeon, and I have been able to dig out some older versions of the game from backup tapes. |
By the way, the map says "This dungeon map was originally drawn in January of 1979 by Steven Roy." Steven Roy was not one of the original creators of Zork. The game was already available for playing on ARPANET at that time. And maybe Bob Supnik's Fortran port was also out there? |
I was going to mention that the map says Steven Roy created it. Nice illustrations and coloring though! Though I doubt I'd put it on a poster because my wife would look at it and say "That's not going on the wall." :-) |
I left the text at bottom just as it was. Except I changed it to say endgame is included. I liked the regular map but wanted a map that has all the places and was cleaner.

I have a retro computer/guitar room. I keep it in there. Wife called me zork dork when I printed the first one.

There was an earlier pencil drawing the game developers made. It can be found online too. It was pretty great. I'm sure Steve Roy used it extensively in the creation of his. Also, there's a guy that made a modern version of that older map as well. Added his endgame and made it all on a computer. I have a copy of his map as well if it can't be found anymore. He added newer locations and credits it to the devs.

Here is a link to download my digital copy of the finalized 616-point map. This is the map the original creators made back in the day, but unlike the usual copy this one has been completed with the later puzzles... and the quality is perfect, not that old aged copy.
Sorry to submit this as an issue but I couldn't find another way easily.

P.S. This is super high resolution and the size is 36x24, the standard poster size. Fit's a poster frame if printed.
