Variable Scale Evacuation Model (Vsem) is an open source tool for simulating massive evacuation processes as mitigation strategies. The main objective of the VSEM software is to optimize the evacuation process of Emergency Plans.
The first version of Vsem (Vsem_people) can be cited as follow:
J. M. Marrero, A. Garcı́a, A. Llinares, J. A. Rodrı́guez-Losada, and R. Ortiz. 2010. The Variable Scale Evacuation Model (VSEM): a new tool for simulating massive evacuation processes during volcanic crises. Nat. Hazards Earth Syst. Sci., 10: 747–760. doi:10.5194/nhess-10-747-2010.
Vsem can be run both as a graphical user interface and as a command line tool:
In command line $ ./Vsem_car /path/configfile.cfg GUI $ ./Vsem_interface.py
To Compile the Vsem.c program: gcc Vsem_car.c -o Vsem_car -lm
A detailed user manual in PDF is available from the releases page.
