Talk about Viv cameras #1
Comments
In short, my video experience with HA as a whole has been bad. I can get the vivint cameras to stream but half the time they dont load or are slow /hitchy. On top of none of the sound comes through and the two way talking doesn't work. I have about 8 vivint cameras and 12 blink cameras, all of which are not satisfactory performance. So, I'm going to try another camera type. I've heard good things about Amcrest so I ordered a pair of ip2m-841w off eBay for $35. From what I can see online, they stream well with HA and the controls are also available in lovelace. It sucks but I've tried everything to improve the video with my vivint cameras. Not sure if that answers your questions or not |
Yeah, I’m about where you were. Pretty crappy streams through the Vivint panel, but at least they’re there. I’m going to add some cams on my own and take back whole NVR control. I think the reason they are so bad, is because the RTSP streams are actually being sent from the panel and not from the cameras themselves. Oh well. Too bad. The rest of the Vivint integration works very well though. At least there’s that. Anyway, thanks for getting back to me. I wasn’t sure how to reach you but apparently this worked creating a blank repo and @mentioning you. Have a good evening. Incidentally, do you have a link to those Amcrest cameras you bought? |
You can find them much cheaper on eBay.

Hi @kksligh. I saw your comment on the Vivint Home Assistant repo regarding the RTSP URLs for the connected Vivint cameras.
I was able to get the URLs because of your question, so thanks for asking the author about that.
I was also hoping that I could ask you a couple questions about your experiences with using the RTSP feeds from the Viv cameras. Although it seems to work, it's painfully slow. I was wondering if you managed to get this all working to your satisfaction and how they "feel" to you. Are they fast enough for your purposes? What NVR are you using the feeds in?
Thanks so much. Hopefully you don't mind answering a couple questions about your experiences with this. Take care.
