Giving the ability to see/search for tabs under window would be handy. An option that allows this would be handy.

Currently, the popup only shows a list of windows. My suggestion consists in adding a sublist of tabs under each window. The advantages would be the following:

  1. Easily searchable: tabs can be searched across all windows
  2. Easily move tabs around: by drag n dropping or by using some keyboard shortcuts to move the entries across the sublists

Hi @antrmn. There are big disadvantages that make it not worth it:

  • I recently tried out Tabby, an extension that does this. I found that with a large number of tabs, Tabby's popup takes a long time to load. An unacceptable amount of time. I am certain that if Winger had to list all tabs, it would suffer the same way.
  • It would be big new functionality that would take effort to implement and maintain, just to barely duplicate jobs the browser can already do: it has UI for tabs (btw next year Firefox is delivering vertical tabs), and the address bar and Firefox View can search tabs. Not to mention also jobs that other specialised extensions can already do well, e.g. vertical tabs and advanced tab search extensions. Winger specialises in window management, with tab management as the emergent benefit.

I hope you see that Winger is built to be a focused tool and working in tandem with the rest of your browser, and even other extensions.

Remember that in most cases you can right-click on a represented tab (in Firefox View, Sidebery, TST, etc) to get Winger's "Send to Window" command to move tabs around.

Thanks so much for your detailed response! It makes a lot of sense now, as I understand the challenges better and even the main focus of the plugin. Thanks again for the work you put into the project!
