Hi, can't start the updated app. SmartScreen prevent it from running...

Right click exe file > Properties > Check the "Unblock" > Click "OK"

So when 2.5.4.188 installed, it did not ask me where to install, nor did I have the sense to move it before I installed. So it was installed in the "downloads" directory. Portable it may be, but I doubt windows startup will find it unless I change other data. It would be so much better if the new version could be a directed reinstall where the user could point to the current location and then have the automated installer do the work. Otherwise, will continue using 2.5.4.188.

The program is distributed without an installer, so version 2.5.4.188 was not actually installed on your system. Most likely, you extracted the ZIP archive into a folder and ran it from there.

For those curious. I was anticipating windows startup giving me problems by moving the directory that windows looked at to somewhere else (you know, windows continuing to look in the location of the old directory). Following the Upgrade guide seemed to work properly. So my apologies to developer here.

I feel I owe you an explanation, as I don't want to come across as a hardass.
This specific release was not planned. It was entirely forced due to a sudden trademark complaint that put the repository in danger of being taken down from GitHub. The deadline was incredibly short, and to be frank, I am actively trying to limit my screen time right now due to personal reasons (as mentioned in the issues).

Despite that, this past week was a refactoring nightmare. I had to go through the entire codebase, updating everything down to the variable names. I tried my absolute best to keep the user experience flawless, but in the real world, there is rarely such a thing.

Especially regarding Windows startup, the program has to actively remove old values from the registry and set new ones so the software continues working normally. In addition, there are several settings and help file transformations taking place during that first run. Because of this, the upgrade guide and documentation are the most reliable ways I can provide support to existing users.
Of course there are bugs but debugging for long period was not actually an option since I had already removed all downloadabel binaries from the repo and I had to force a release.

This is a free-time project, and this recent situation turned it into an unplanned coding burden.

I hope this explains why the project may be moving slower than expected right now, or why my support rhythm isn't fully aligned with users asking for new feature implementations. I have a ton of ideas I want to add, and hopefully, those will be implemented in the near future.

2. Have you heard about Liberapay? It doesn't take a cut from payees or payers, as it is itself funded through it's own platform and form of payment. It's a recursive payments platform.

Threats do work, it turns out! Liberapay tells me you need to do some more configurations. You did not specify a mode of payment, I believe.
