Bug description

I use an external monitor as my primary screen on my laptop (some kind of ROG can't remember which), and have dealt with this issue since switching full time to Linux. I think it's important to note that my external monitor and most of my peripherals are plugged into a powered thunderbolt hub. When my laptop screen spends too long with no motion- updated frames, it will freeze. The external monitor NEVER freezes and system activity seems to be completely irrelevant, I've had the screen freeze during gaming (on my external) and after a while of inactivity but with the screens still on. So long as the frames get updated on the laptop's screen, it will not freeze, small changes like the clock on my desktop updating or discord speech bubbles are not enough to prevent it. If I watch videos on that screen, or even just have music playing with the album art expanded, it will NEVER freeze. When it does freeze, my system functions almost perfectly normally, I only notice it's happened when I try to move my mouse over to my laptop screen and it just disappears- it lets me go there but obviously can't see it. Trying Crtl + Alt + Escape doesn't help, both screens go black and stay black, forcing me to shut down- sometimes not even doing a thing. Sometimes I'm able to hop into a TTY and then back to the visual environment and it will work again but not all the time. However, I'm always able to do a graceful shutdown using REISUB or REISUO. I've tried numerous times to get logs, even in pstore but have gotten absolutely 0 logs with an error, sometimes not even getting logs during the time the screen was frozen at all. I've tried to downgrade and upgrade graphics drivers, turning off power saving options in system settings, attempting Wayland but it doesn't even recognize my monitor, having compositing enabled and disabled, updating my kernel and cinnamon. The behaivour of the issue leads me to believe it is some sort of deeper level issue instead of hiccups with cinnamon seeing as sometimes my system won't even respond to the TTY shortcuts and doing anything drastic to the system will cause it to full freeze, crash, or black out. Again, only sometimes and why that is I haven't a clue.
Literally as I was writing this the screen froze again...

Steps to reproduce

I wouldn't know if it's an issue specific to my laptop model, firmware, or whatever. But I do think the relevant details are an external monitor plugged into a laptop via thunderbolt and lack of updated frames on the laptops display- what the external monitor does or what the system does is completely irrelevant. It doesn't seem to be time based either, sometimes it can go for hours without freezing, other times only 15 minutes.

Expected behavior

As I don't know why this is happening I couldn't say what should happen besides... it shouldn't freeze lol This is a very odd issue and the only one I haven't been able to fix. Googling this, searching through here, or throwing a bone to AI hasn't yielded anything helpful for me.

Additional information

If you require any additional information please feel free to let me know, I will do my best to assist as this is my first 6 months on Linux so please bear with me. I am really enjoying Linux and wish to use it indefinitely now that it's gotten insanely good since the last time I tried it a few years ago.
