First, make sure you update to the latest version of Myth:Auth. Then it sounds like you probably have a configuration issue. Edit you Auth.php and make sure $requireActivation is either a class name string or null - some previous iterations used '' or false and those could cause this error.

If you made it past the ! $user check above that means that the model found and returned something. The default UserModel returns a User::class which would not have this problem. My guess is that your $user is actually an array from a different User Model. Check in your app/Models/ folder or other namespaces to see if you have a conflicting model that is being used instead of the native Myth one.
