Mapbox Android 4.0.0 is the most ambitious Android release to date with 3 major new features being released. These new features are part of our ongoing efforts focused on providing a premiere navigation experience in-car and on-dash for Android. To help us produce the highest quality SDK possible we're releasing a second official Beta release so that everyone has time to explore it and help hardened it before the official 4.0.0 Final Release. The First beta was released on 15-March-2016 in #4334.

Highlights

Full Change Log: https://github.com/mapbox/mapbox-gl-native/issues?q=milestone%3Aandroid-v4.0.0

Release Branch: https://github.com/mapbox/mapbox-gl-native/commits/release-ios-3.2.0-android-4.0.0

Improvements Since Beta 1

The TODO list for making this happen:

  • Change Version Name to 4.0.0-beta.2 in gradle.properties
  • Update version info in Twitter Fabric metadata file
  • Move open issues to android-v4.0.0-final Milestone in GitHub
  • Publish 4.0.0-beta.2 artifact to Maven Central
  • Updating Mapbox.com JavaDoc Documentation
  • Update CHANGELOG.md
  • Tag android-v4.0.0-beta.2 in GitHub
  • Close Milestone android-v4.0.0 in GitHub
  • Blog Post on https://www.mapbox.com/blog/
  • Tweet release
  • Alert Twitter Fabric team of new release
  • Create ticket to merge release-ios-3.2.0-android-4.0.0 branch back into master
  • Change Version Name BACK to SNAPSHOT after release and release branch merge to support daily development. In this case set to 4.0.0-SNAPSHOT in gradle.properties
  • Update Mapbox Demo App to use 4.0.0-beta.2 and release on Google Play

I just finished building, uploading, and releasing -beta.2 on Maven Central. Will wait to see it show up on https://repo1.maven.org before concluding that this is live. It usually takes 20 minutes, but Sonatype was having issues last week when -beta.1 was released and it took an hour plus along with contacting support before everything was working as expected. We'll see how tonight goes.

Well, whatever trouble Sonatype was having last week it was clearly last week. Beta 2 is now live to the world at --> https://repo1.maven.org/maven2/com/mapbox/mapboxsdk/mapbox-android-sdk/4.0.0-beta.2/

Looks like @jfirebaugh brought 6fb87fb and a6012a1 into release-ios-3.2.0-android-4.0.0 from this release's development branch. I've now tagged the release at a6012a1 with the tag: https://github.com/mapbox/mapbox-gl-native/commits/android-v4.0.0-beta.2

All that is left to do is wait for -beta.2 to show up on https://search.maven.org/ which usually takes a few hours. When that's done I'll update the Mapbox Demo App to use -beta2 as well.

All the tech has now been bundled, shipped, and tagged. 🎉 Working with @Lndsay to draft a Tweet announcing this later today as it was decided to skip a blog post (save that for launch). Once the Tweet has shipped we can officially close this ticket.
