Option to hide channel and members when no access

I am leading a gaming community since more than a decade where politic and espionnage is central. At the moment we have multiple murmur running for second interest groups that are opsec. However it would be really easier and better to only manage one murmur where we can set an option to hide channel and members when you do not have access to it.

We have a lock icon that indicates whether or not you have access to a channel. However, this is jot entirely reliable atm due to only the server knowing when a user can access a given channel. Thus, hiding those channels will also hide some to which the user would actually have access.
Besides, I am not too fond of the idea of hiding channels in general. That seems to allow for a lot of bad UX.

Actually this is not about knowing that you can enter or not, but not seeing the channel at all. It can be a global option to how the server is handling the channels where members have access to it or not, or a channel behavior with an option like "Private" to make it disapear to anyone who do not have access.

But I get why it sound like a bad design for you. Your approach is communitary, our approach is all about security of the information, because even internally we have spies from others orgs that are trying to get informations (this is serious gaming business here that we run since 2006 ;-) ). Basically there is some groups that we want to not be see in some channels working together because it gives informations about something that is happening.

We have this behaviour in our forum, jabber and discord (that we only use for external relations). When you don't have acccess to a channel or a subforum, you don't see it by default nor the users in it.

So like I said, we opted for multiple murmur instances long time ago and it kind of work but required a lot more efforts. We are managing multiple murmur instances with ansible and a specific authenticator for all of them to let enter only thoses who have the dedicated group in their profile. But would be so better to have that feature in murmur because we could drastically reduce the management to few murmur instances (it's all about the cost too).

There's an open issue about the channel hiding feature: #3057
This should essentially cover your request, no?
