Describe the bug
This is a continuation of the issue #89 which should have resolved the issue in Nextcloud 18.0.4, but hasn't as far as I can tell. We have been running 18.0.4 for some time and as the related merge request has been backported into that release, I should be able to use the slideshow/viewer on public links. However, this is not the case. Files still get downloaded when you click on them.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behaviour:

  1. Have Nextcloud 18.0.4 (Docker) installed
  2. Open a public link to a folder containing photos
  3. Click on a photo

Expected behaviour
Viewer opens and be able to use slideshow.

Actual behaviour
File downloads.

Have you disabled federated sharing?

Just found out that I have the same issue when using public link. However if I'm signed in the viewer works. I checked the console :

Error: "Request failed with status code 401"
    exports https://cloudurl.com/apps/viewer/js/viewer.js?v=3468ee6c-34:39
    exports https://cloudurl.com/apps/viewer/js/viewer.js?v=3468ee6c-34:260
    onreadystatechange https://cloudurl.com/apps/viewer/js/viewer.js?v=3468ee6c-34:39

Also, federated sharing settings is disabled on my setup. I also updated to 18.0.5 to see if it solves the issue but it's still there

And I tried to download pictures and it's working so file access is properly set up

Hope it helps

In what way is this related to federated sharing?

It is possible to share the public link of the photo folder without the need of having federated sharing active. But if someone opens that link and clicks on a photo, a black screen with the spinner opens but the photo never gets displayed in big.
