Hi @kstierhoff and @jpzwolinski

As discussed yesterday, I've added descriptions of our regional sampling plan to the project instructions under Appendix B Survey Design and Adaptive Sampling Protocol. Ready for your input and review! Let me know if you think we should add more details. Tried to keep it to the point. I also commented some questions on the adaptive sampling protocol for your input.

Couple notes:

  • Since we are splitting the SCB into thirds, it makes more sense to end the regional sampling for the SCB at line 051C at Pt Conception. We had discussed ending it 3 lines more north at Morro Bay. Line 053C is ~38 nmi and the two north are ~54 and ~51 nmi. We could leave those three transects without regional sampling or reduce to 2 regions (split transects in half).
  • SCB regional sampling to line 051C is about 11 days.
  • North of Cape Mendocino to Cape Flattery is about 31 days with transects <50 nmi split at 20 nmi off the inshore waypoint and for transects >50nm split at 20 nmi / 20nmi / remaining offshore miles (ranges from 40 nmi at the most northern line to 10 nmi at the most southern line). This regional sampling scheme adds 5 days as opposed to no regional sampling. We have time in the schedule for this. Calculations are on Sheet 19 of the 2307 Route Planning google sheet as before.

I'll follow up here/github when I have the regions designated in the coastal file and after I create the document for sampling guidelines (will be similar to project instructions).

Thanks,
Alice

This looks good, Alice. I made a comment or two regarding the sampling N of Cape Mendocino. The comments/edits I made for the other parts should be fairly self-explanatory. @jpzwolinski, if you agree with my edits, go ahead and accept the changes. Please see my comment about the placement of breaks and trawl samples N of Mendo.

Here is a draft powerpoint for the survey overview meeting with Annie next week. I'll use some of these slides in our training with the AST group on regional sampling.

Regional sampling plan has been refined by @alicebeittel and a briefing has been held with AST acousticians to convey the purpose and methods for regional ATM sampling in the SCB and north of Cape Mendocino.
