For this realease, we should take care of the following:

  1. in Externals.cfg, ww3, pop, and cism should have the "required" field set to False, since we have not used and we do not explicitly support any compsets that include these components. Users can always put them back to True and re-run checkout_externals if they want, knowing that they do so on their own initiative
  2. in cime_config/config_compsets.xml, components/cam/cime_config/config_compsets.xml, and components/micom/cime_config/config_compsets.xml, we need <science_support grid="xxx"/> fields, so that users know what configurations we support (and can be created without the --run-unsupported option) and what configurations we do not support (and require --run-unsupported).

@tto061 I think both of these suggestions make sense.

I would also like to change the references to MICOM in compsets etc. to BLOM and that the BLOM external is placed in components/blom rather than components/micom for the next release.
