Have to log in twice

When a user goes to log in, the user is returned to the home screen not logged in, and has to log in once more in order to be logged in.

@davidschober i added MBK to this, but feel free to have someone else look into it. i verified this on different computers, using different browsers. and i have heard nicole say that this happens to her as well. please verify.

@davidschober i think NU's avalon is due for an upgrade anyway, so once 6.x is released we can upgrade NU's version as well. That might take care of the issue
