10.14 is way too soon on the chopping block IMO. The support for 10.13 was discontinued not that long ago.
Hopefully the reasoning behind this is more related to technical issues and not some artificial reasons like they did for Win7 (which still works with the latest eID software, just need to remove the OS check and recompile the WIX bootstrapper. Heck, even the Web-eID works on Win7 once you edit the .msi file with Orca).

The unclear and vague OS support policy is one of the main drawbacks of RIA, typically they don't support operating systems that have gone out of support.

However macOS 10.11 was supported until version 20.01 despite the OS support ending in 2018 and macOS 10.13 supported until 21.02 version despite the OS support ending in late 2020, although that kind of makes sense because the software was released not longer after the OS went EOL.

Sometimes you drop the support for operating systems that haven't yet reached the end of support like in the past with Windows Vista, Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 16.04. I think clarity and a notice six-months advance wouldn't be too much to ask for. RIA has done and will continue to provide many contributions to our e-society, so I can commend the authority for many things.

Unfortunately I cannot commend things like the lack of clear OS support policy for theeID-software. Still, wishing all the best for the future.

Thank you for the feedback.
We will try to be more clear about our OS support policy in the future.
There are many things that we take into consideration when analysing op. system removal. Some reasons why we decided to remove 10.14 support:

  • 10.14 does not recieve security updates from Apple.
  • Most macOS 10.14 users can upgrade to at least macOS 10.15 version.
  • According to our statistics most ID-software users use the newer op. system.

If possible then we do not limit installation immediately after removing op. system support so that our users have time to upgrade their op. system.

Thanks for the reply. I truly appreciate it. It's great you don't immediately block the installation on unsupported systems.
You should give users an advance notice when discontinuing support for a particular version, possibly 4-6 months advance. For example informing Windows 8.1/2012 R2 users in August that no versions of eID software will be supported on aforementioned after January 2023 (even though 2012 R2 will be supported until Oct. 2023, I can't see support lasting that long for NT 6.3-based operating systems) . Especially with macOS that lacks a clear support policy when compared to Windows and Linux.
Users on unsupported platforms should IMO receive a simple, non-intrusive one-time popup, advising them to upgrade their systems if they wish to receive eID-software updates. I do wish eID statistics that contain no personally identifiable data were made available to the general public.
