Committer Election Guideline

Jonas Helming edited this page Jul 17, 2013 · 2 revisions

A new committer has to be nomininated by an existing committer. Therefore the existing committer creates an issue in the project's issue tracker named "Committer Vote for Name of Committer". In the description the existing committer describes, why the new committer is nominated, for example existing contributions to the project or planned future participation are described. After the nominations all existing committers are requested to vote by commenting on the issue:

  • +1 for acceptance
  • 0 if the committer does not have an opinion, e.g. if the nominated committer is unknown
  • -1 to decline the new committer

Committers should also provide a short reason for their vote. After two weeks, the project lead closes the voting by closing the issue. If there are at least three positive votes and a majority of 2/3, the new committer is accepted. Projects with less than three committers require at least 2 positive votes or 100% positive votes. The voting can be closed earlier, if it is already surethat the voting will be positive, e.g. when 2/3 of all committers have already voted "yes". If the committer is accepted, the project lead informs the project office including a link to the voting issue. The project office contacts the new committer to complete necessary paper work, e.g. committer agreement.
