UX for Recent / Unresponded threaded messages

We've started using GitHub discussions and it's been good, but once we get into a long comment thread, we see the older messages and then have to click to see newer messages even though the newer messages are what we are always looking for since the discussion is ongoing. This is the case even when there are unread comments on the thread.

Is there a way to make it show the latest X threaded comments and click to show older rather than the existing behavior which shows only older and forces a click to see recent?
