Problem:
When creating a Mintlify project for testing/prototyping purposes, the subdomain (.mintlify.io) is set at creation time. If the project is later adopted as the official documentation site — renamed, moved to an organization repo, fully reconfigured — there's no way to update the public subdomain to match the new project name. The original test subdomain remains the public URL indefinitely unless a custom domain is configured.
Use case:
We created a project purely for testing. It worked well and we decided to adopt it as our permanent docs site. We renamed the project, moved the repo into our GitHub organization, and reconfigured everything — but the public URL still shows the original test subdomain, with no option in the dashboard to rename it.
Request:
Add a setting (Dashboard → Settings → Deployment, or similar) that allows changing the *.mintlify.io subdomain after project creation, ideally with redirects from the old subdomain to avoid breaking existing links.
Workaround considered:
Configuring a custom domain solves the public-facing issue, but doesn't address cases where teams want a clean *.mintlify.io subdomain without owning/managing a custom domain yet.
Good job at Mintlify, I love it ! thanks
