We currently only have JSBSim models for quadrotors in + configuration:
simple_quad (with front/back motor turning clock wise) and simple_quad_ccw (with front/back motor turning counter clock wise).

We are missing some other common configurations (in order of importance):

  • quadrotor in X configuration
  • "standard" hexacopter
  • "standard" octocopter
  • Y6 hexacopter
  • ?

@OpenUAS, @dewagter, I thought you already had the ARDrone2 flying in Simulation with the appropriate JSBSim model...?

Yes, quite unfinished uglyness. Since we deemed real robust flight with ARDrone2 a higher priority and have limited resources. The quest for real-life robust flight is coming to a successful end so now we can focus on continuing working on issue. For the time being to communicate about the issue the webpage http://paparazzi.enac.fr/wiki/AR_Drone_2/JSBSim will now be a starting point which will be updated as we go. I will dig up work done. But also need to do some real measurements (Forces, Arm, etc.) on ARdrone2, which is quite time consuming.

As a start any JSBSim model in x configuration would be really helpful.
Modelling it more precisely for specific airframes like the ardrone2 can still be done later.

OK, working on generic X setup first. note that one also needs to enjoy testflying during Christmas time ;) so any JSBsim model crafting result will take some time..

Taking it out of the v5.2 milestone again, at least we have x mode quad models now...
If someone wants to write some hexa/octo models it would be very welcome (and is easiy backported...)

@esden @flixr FYI, I'm working on a Hexa X model for use with jsbsim. Still tweaking the model but should have something ready in the next week or so.

Closing this since we now at least have some hexa and ocoto configurations, thanks to @hooperfly
