Allow SSL connections to the proxy so that authentication credentials are no longer transmitted in plain text Base64. Allows safer usage over public networks.

Hi Pat,
I've merged changes from multiple contributors from bryanpkc/master and added support for IPv6 and SSL myself. IPv6 should be used automatically on whatever systems support it. I wasn't sure how to handle documentation conflicts so I used the README from bryanpkc/master with no changes and left the updated README.md from your tree alone.
