Version: 3.1.5

On p. 858 the key visualize as smooth cycle is advertised in the top paragraph of this site. As far as I can see this key does not exist. One may either drop this statement in the manual, or add this key

\tikzdatavisualizationset{visualize as smooth cycle/.style={%
visualize as smooth line=my data, my data={smooth cycle}}}

in tikzlibrarydatavisualization.code.tex. I'd slightly prefer changing the manual.
