TeXLive 11 has just been frozen forever and work on TeXLive 12 has begun. It seems like a good idea to have a release version of biblatex 2.0 and biber 1.0 to have it included in the TL12 version which burned put on DVD.

Disagree. The DVD code needs to be stable and tested, as many people only update once a year. We're not in that position at the moment: the update should wait until after the DVD is finalised.

Yes, I'd be a bit nervous about this. 2.0/1.0 is looking good at the moment but it has an awful lot of new stuff in there.
Looking at the download stats, the posts on c.t.t have been working and the biblatex downloads of 2.0 have increased quite a lot and we have no serious open bugs but since 1.7/0.9.8 are fairly stable, might be nice to leave these for TL '12.
Having said that, we do need to release 2.0/1.0 soonish. I have to start looking at the major changes for flexible data models at some point.

As for example issue #8 highlights, we still have to be sure that the backend support changes don't knock-on to others, especially if we look to people who don't follow developments but just copy-paste stuff.

I'm closing this since it's fairly clear that 2.0/1.0 won't be in TL 2012 - there are just too many major changes which haven't been used by enough people yet.
