I recently upgraded Ubuntu to 14.04 and got a Hamster upgrade thrown in for free. I dislike the new summary row (showing the totals for the categories, and the Add Earlier and Overview buttons) for two reasons:

  1. having it there at all uses up vertical space which is in short supply
  2. The summary extends the window making it wider and wider

Could it be made optional so I can turn it off?

A summary of the number of hours worked in a day would be useful, but this could be at the top of the window where there is plenty of space.

Just to be clear we're talking about the Gnome Shell extension, right?

I'll take a look at adding a setting for the summaries when I find some time, there was another feature request related to this (adding an overall total) but I can't seem to find it at the moment.

Also could you please post a screenshot (anonymized) to get an idea of what you're dealing with? Maybe there are some other ways to improve space usage, for example I'm thinking the "Stop tracking" link could be replaced by a stop icon on the current task (similar to the play icon to continue on a task), and the "Tracking Settings" could be dropped completely since it's reachable through "Show Overview".

Yes sorry for poor quality of the report (and putting two issues in one report!)

Below is what I am talking about:

Ah ok the applet version you're using is actually outdated, and the new version doesn't have an indicator for Unity yet (see #184). But your points are still valid for the Gnome Shell extension so I'll keep this issue open.

I don't use Unity in fact, I prefer Gnome. Not sure about versions, I just use the one that I got. It's the changing the window size that bothers me most.

Closing as outdated. The interface has changed a lot.
