Hi,
You all know how rapidly one "image" sweeps over the entire web sometimes.
Using an actual python in the software logo is a mistake, since Python got its name after the Monty Python group.
Python language is the sweetest thing in the universe, or it's at least among the top 10 000 sweetest things. It is elegant and intelligent, and cool (including a sense of humor). Snakes are not exactly like that.
Sure, some people love snakes, there is a type of hype about it. Some love rats, others love spiders or/and sharks. That is, some people love those creatures that most people don't like. Or it may even be the other way around, like some people don't like those animals that most people love.
I think, it's all right like that. At least it happens :)
But when you attach a picture (an image, including the mental image) to a software, to an intellectual product, a piece of work, that doesn't belong to it, it can be viewed as a mistake.
As a matter of fact, I have seen several such snake-image annotations to Python... so, plenty must exist.
I'm not asking you to rethink what you think about snakes...
I'm only asking you to bear in mind that Python has nothing to do with them :)
NO offense :)
Peter
Oops, forget it :(
After writing this post, I typed python.org in the url field, and... for the first time in my life I saw the logo differently...
All of a sudden it appeared to me as a pharmacy logo... with two plastic snakes around a(n invisible) chalice...
Or like a snake nest with no chalice at all...
I still maintain all that I have said, but what you do is totally in line with the official Python image... (unfortunately :) )
