Project to be claimed

flask_session: https://pypi.org/project/Flask-Session/

Your PyPI username

rayluo: https://pypi.org/user/rayluo/
(Although this is my new account on PyPI, I've been maintaining other open source repos for years and released them on PyPI using other accounts. So I know the process well.)

Reasons for the request

A project is considered abandoned when ALL of the following are met:

  • owner not reachable (see Reachability above);

No response from my emails sent to the author's email address on this project's PyPI project page. (Other community members could not reach author either, for example: https://github.com/fengsp/flask-session/pull/114#issuecomment-613149256)

  • no releases within the past twelve months; and

Last release was 3 years ago.

  • no activity from the owner on the project's home page (or no home page listed).

See no activity from the owner in the project's contributor's page. Did not see him in the issues page either.

Maintenance or replacement?

Intend to continue maintenance.
Currently the original repo is partially broken since the recent upstream (Flask) 1.x release. I've already made an fix in my fork. But without being able to publish it to PyPI, it won't be very helpful to the community.

Contact and additional research

Please refer to the "Reasons for the request" section. Spend a minute or two in its current repo's issues section, you will realize that the repo has been abandoned.

Gentle ping @jamadden @ewdurbin , CC original project owner @fengsp in hoping that he/she would also respond.

Hello @rayluo, I will now attempt contact with @fengsp. If I don't receive a reply we will move forward with your request.

@yeraydiazdiaz How long do we need to wait for the response, given that several community members already tried that before? Today I just got yet another customer complaining for this, in a repo that I own. :-/

The PEP is clear: It's at least three contact attempts by PyPI personnel over the course of 6 weeks.

The owner replied to my email accepting the transfer of the project.

I will now ask an admin to perform it.

That's an unexpected turn. I noticed his come back and send my greeting (pallets-eco/flask-session#114 (comment)), so I thought this PR would be automatically rejected soon. :-)

Let's proceed.

I'm a little confused here. Is @fengsp also planning to transfer maintainership of the GitHub project as well?

As the intention of the transfer is continued maintenance and @fengsp seems to be active (having cut a new release just a few days ago) and the project has security implications for dependent projects, it seems more prudent for @rayluo to be added as a maintainer of the project both on GitHub and PyPI rather than transfer to release from fork.

Has there been any response from @fengsp? Doesn't appear that there has been much/any activity on the repository since May...

I still am hesitant to transfer this project if @fengsp is active, but will do so in 7 days if no response is heard here.

Doesn't look like they're active. I agree that we should be moving forward with a transfer, if there's no more responses in this window (i.e. next 3 days).
