Feature description.
A useful addition to the vertex tool would be a way to be able to snap the selected vertex on the line connecting its previous and next vertices. Right now this can be achieved by workarounds like deleting the vertex and then re-creating it with shift+click, which is troublesome in situations of topological editing, or by adding construction points to the advanced digitizing tools, which is pretty complicated for what should be pretty simple.
My suggestion is when moving a vertex and pressing shift, to enable snapping on straight segments connecting adjacent vertices, their intersections and their perpendiculars.
I've built a dirty proof of concept solution uclaros@c0574ba
Here's a screencast that better describes the desired functionality:
I think the way to go would probably be to use the new temporary snap layers instead (was not implemented yet when I created my proof of concept) , but that would mean the standard snapping symbols will have to be used and that might be a little confusing. Also that would mean the whole snapping settings would have to be toggled when pressing shift, but that might not be an issue...
I would appreciate any feedback or ideas on the matter.
