Branding :: community engagement

The backstory

Before large scale marketing outreach for RChain can be effective, the branding of the platform and technology needs an upgrade. In the past we have tried to address these needs bottom-up from the community, but without the success everyone was hoping for. Turns out that something ‘abstract’ like branding is really hard to do for a decentralised, remote organisation like ours.

For this reason, the board has decided to form a branding WG within the coop, and engage an outside, Seattle-based branding firm to help overhaul the branding. After due diligence on 6 potential firms, the board and other stakeholders have together selected branding firm “Girvin” to lead & execute this process. However, just because a branding firm is helping us, doesn’t mean that the community is side-lined…

Because we’re on a tight schedule, the work is split out into distinct phases, with strict timelines & asks during each stage. Input and feedback will be collected in 3 different “circles”...

Three circles

The first circle —closest to the work of the branding firm— is the “stakeholder group”. The stakeholder group will meet with branding firm in the preliminary workshops and provide the first round of feedback during the “community circulation” phases. The stakeholder group is composed of Greg Meredith, Nash Foster, Kenny Rowe and 4 others to represent RChain directly with Girvin.

The “leadership circle” (circle 2) is composed of 11 members of the coop community, that is elected by the community. The branding WG will seek out explicit feedback from them, and for the sake of sanity it’s limited to 11 people. Below we outline how you can vote (and get elected) to be in the leadership circle.

The community (circle 3) makes up the 3rd circle and flows over from the 2nd circle. We’re open to hear feedback from anyone in the community, and we are designing processes and tools for inclusion to the best of our ability.

...

Phase 1

During the 1st phase of the engagement, Girvin will do a deep dive into RChain, it’s technology, the market, and a lot of other factors. Think of it as their “prep work” for the engagement. This will take 5 days.

  • Phase 1 start date: 17th of May
  • Phase 1 completes: 23rd of May (5 days)

During this time, three actions are needed from community members:

Actions in phase 1:

Action #1: election of the “leadership circle” Through our Loomio poll you can elect 11 people to form the leadership circle. You can vote on yourself and others, and even add new candidates if they aren’t in the list yet. Click here to open the Loomio poll

Action #2: community input survey Girvin uses surveys to collect input into the branding work. The more members voice their perspective, the more material Girvin has to work with. Fill out the survey here (takes 2-3 minutes)

Action #3: Ask questions about the process We opened a #Branding-WG Discord channel, where you can ask more questions. If anything is unclear (especially about the branding process), we’ll see you there!
