goloose is a fast way to convert between incompatible types in Go.

Basically it tries to replicate this function, only faster:

func Convert(in, out interface{}) error {
	b, err := json.Marshal(in)
	if err != nil {
		return err
	}
	return json.Unmarshal(b, &out)
}

Rather than using JSON as an intermediary, goloose uses reflection over the input and output structs to set values directly.

It makes use of some code from the encoder in the stdlib's encoding/json, to try to ensure a consistent view of how to handle embedded types and other corner cases.

Options

goloose takes an optional type (Options{}) that allows the caller to configure it in various ways. The options and effects are detailed below.

  • StringToFloat64
    When this is true, goloose will convert strings to float64 when the in type is string and the out type is float64, and the conversion is possible. NOTE: this is not the behavior of JSON.Unmarshal!
    Default: false
