Designers wanted - post them here, sexiest wins (I am rather partial to a green unicorn riding a tickmark btw!)

I could help out here too, but is this basically just a logo competition? I personally would like more information from you. Do you want this "logo" to be purely graphical (icon), just the words (wordmark) or a combination? I understand the favicon has to be purely graphical; just unsure about the logo. Sorry for the questions.

Don't be sorry for questions!

Hmm, good question: "logo competition". I'd like not to think so. But then I'd like to think the logo with the best chops would be used. But what defines "best". I guess I started it with "win".

Honestly, I'm a developer who has no design background. I know what looks good and works, but I couldn't tell you what to do.

What do you think? :)

I'd like to take a stab at this.

Would you say this is a scenario where a concept needs to be produced quickly, and then iterate on it, or are there a few days to flush things out in more detail?

@cerebralideas

Okay, I'll see what I can produce for you, and just to be sure, you're kidding about the unicorn riding the tick mark, right :P

@rephlexs that's right.

@cerebralideas if can work... ;-)

After working some ideas in my head, I think the best approach would be to focus graphical efforts on a distinct, yet simple icon that displays well at all sizes while still communicating the intention of the application. Then, just have a wordmark that utilizes a simple, clean font that's used when the situation allows.

With all that being said, here's my first quick mock-up: http://cl.ly/E8NP. Keep in mind it's just a proof of concept, not yet fully "designed". I'm just after feedback and to have something that helps initiate a dialogue.

Here's 3 different concepts, guys.

Remy, I was not sure either if your idea of the unicorn and checkmark where serious, but I didn't see a reason to not try. I will typically not apply color to a logo (or to anything) until I am not sure the direction is the right one off the black and white sketches.

If you dig any of them, I'd be glad to iterate to a few more variations of it: http://rephlexs.posterous.com/

It's a shame I'm in the middle of writing my dissertation, however it'd be nice to submit something for this. I will try and get something uploaded before Tuesday. :)

Hi again,

here's my submission: Updated, see below comment.

I'm happy to iterate on it if you'd like any changes. :)

Edit: I shall iterate on this, I've had an idea to lessen its 'srs bsns' quality. In before rainbows and unicorns?

Meet Puni, the cssprefix unicorn: http://bit.ly/ytCsoZ and the construction of: http://bit.ly/wqMO6J

This is the result of whittling down a couple of pages worth of sketches, I hope you like it!

I'd love some feedback. :)

@KimDolleris

I like it! Simple - cute. A bit too cute for my taste though :)

Would work far better as a favicon than your first submission..

You guys heard from Remy?

That beeing said - I just saw my pony wasnt as favicon'able. Made a few adjustments: http://bit.ly/unicorns_ARE_awesome

Very cool - love it. I really like both styles actually.

I've been reading around some of the Node.js issues I'm hitting (in
particular with making the thing scale properly). That said - worse
case, it's just a downloadable tool - it still does the job.

Unless anyone objects, I think we can decide on one icon now.

I'm going to put my vote on the green one, partly because it also
gives us a quick palette for a simple site.

It's really had to chose one too - they're all very cool (soooo much
better than anything I could do).

Wish I could've had enough time to sit down and really crank on this. Oh well...

@KimDolleris Nice job

@remy If I can land a hand with anything in the future, let me know.
