v0.8.6: importer fix for Linux and the Steam Deck
Quick fix for the importer on Linux and the Steam Deck. On top of v0.8.5; the game itself is unchanged.
Importer
- Dragging the game folder into a Linux terminal works now. Konsole (the Steam Deck's terminal) and GNOME's terminal paste a dragged folder between single quotes, and the importer kept the quotes as part of the folder name, so it answered "The game is not in ... (no .build.info)" even with the right folder. Single quotes,
file:///...paths and paths typed as in the shell (Diablo\ II\ Resurrected) are all accepted now. - It finds Diablo II: Resurrected installed with Steam by itself, in any of your Steam libraries, including the Steam Deck's microSD card (and on Windows, in Steam's folder). It also looks deeper inside cards and disks, e.g.
/run/media/deck/MicroSD-1TB/Games/Diablo II Resurrected. - With v0.8.5's importer you can still give the folder directly:
./d2port-importar --juego "/path/to/Diablo II Resurrected".
Tested
Dragged-folder formats and Steam library detection with test folders on Linux; builds for Pi, Linux, Windows and web browser. Not yet tried on a real Steam Deck.

v0.8.5: split screen keeps each player on their side
Two players on one screen: each player now keeps their side. On top of v0.8.4.
Split screen
- Player 1 is always on the left and player 2 always on the right. Each player's HUD, panels and inventory stay on their side even when the characters cross, so you no longer mix up whose inventory is whose.
- It is still dynamic, just less: both players share one camera while they are close, and the screen splits when they move apart. The dividing line tilts towards the other player, but at most 40 degrees from vertical, and it never flips sides.
- Joining and splitting the screen is now smooth: if you split while crossed, each view slides into its half instead of jumping.
Tested
Two-player games with bots: the line tilts up to about 37 degrees and, with the characters crossed, each one stays in their half. Pi, Linux, Windows and web-browser builds.
Install / update
Download diablo2-port.zip (Pi and Linux), diablo2-port-windows.zip (Windows) or diablo2-port-web.zip (web browser) and replace the port; your saved games are kept. To play over the network, all machines need this same version.

v0.8.4: gold pickup sounds
A quick fix for the sound of gold. On top of v0.8.3.
Gold sounds
- Picking up gold (walking over it) no longer plays the same sound as gold dropping. It now plays one of Diablo II: Resurrected's four gold pile sounds, by the size of the pile (with your gold find). Gold dropping on the ground keeps the original sound.
- The original Diablo II uses the same sound for both; Resurrected added these pile sounds together with its automatic gold pickup, which the port also has.
- Resurrected's exact amounts for each pile are not in its files, so the port uses 200, 800 and 3,000 gold. They were chosen from the gold that drops in every difficulty, so that each difficulty sounds one step bigger: mostly the tiny pile in Normal, the small one in Nightmare and the medium one in Hell, with the large one for bosses and high gold find.
Import again to hear them: the four sounds are new files of your copy of the game. Until you import again, picking up gold plays the usual gold sound.
Install / update
Download diablo2-port.zip (Pi and Linux), diablo2-port-windows.zip (Windows) or diablo2-port-web.zip (web browser), replace the port and import again; your saved games are kept. To play over the network, all machines need this same version.

v0.8.3: import from Steam (beta)
A new way to get the game files: from your own Steam account. This is a BETA. Nothing changes in the game itself. On top of v0.8.2.
⚠️ BETA: Import from Steam has only been tested with a simulated Steam downloader, never with a real Steam account that owns the game. It may not work yet. Importing from an installed copy of Diablo II: Resurrected (as before) is still the tested way. If you try it, please open an issue with what the screen or window says (on the Pi,/userdata/system/logs/d2port-steam.log) andimportar-steam.log, whether it works or not.
Import from Steam (beta)
For Diablo II: Resurrected bought on Steam (the Infernal Edition), with no PC and without installing the game:
- On the Pi (Batocera): in the Ports menu, Import from Steam BETA (English) or Importar desde Steam BETA (Español). A big QR code appears on the screen: open the Steam app on your phone, tap the shield (Steam Guard) and scan it. Your password is never typed on the Pi. Then it shows the progress until it is done. B cancels; next time it resumes where it stopped.
- On Windows: double-click
Import from Steam BETA (English).bat(or the Spanish one) in the Windows or web-browser package: the QR code appears in the window. - On Linux:
./d2port-importar --steam, or theImport from Steam BETAscripts next to the importer. - On a PC you can also sign in with
--usuario <account>: the downloader asks for your password and Steam Guard code in that window (they go to Steam, not to the port).
How it works: the first time it downloads DepotDownloader (an open-source Steam downloader, GPL-2.0, about 32 MB) from its official page and checks it is exactly the expected file; it is not included in the port's downloads. Steam only gives the game files to an account that owns the game. It downloads only the game data, about 15 GB for a while (on the Pi, if the SD card has no room it uses a USB drive with enough space by itself), imports what the port uses (about 1.6 GB), and deletes the download.
Tested
With a simulated downloader that prints the same as the real one, on Linux, Windows and the Pi: signing in by QR (the code on the Pi's screen is exactly the one Steam sends), resuming without scanning again, the free-space check and the switch to a USB drive, the errors (sign-in failed, download cut), and the Pi, Windows and web-browser builds. Not tested: the real DepotDownloader and a real Steam account.
Install / update
Download diablo2-port.zip (Pi and Linux), diablo2-port-windows.zip (Windows) or diablo2-port-web.zip (web browser) and replace the port; your saved games are kept. To play over the network, all machines need this same version.

v0.8.2: the port in a web browser
The port now also runs in a web browser, on your own computer. Nothing new inside the game. On top of v0.8.1.
In a web browser
- New download:
diablo2-port-web.zip. Extract it, import the game files from your own Diablo II: Resurrected with the importer in that folder (Import Diablo II (English).baton Windows,Import Diablo II (English).shon Linux, or theImportar … (Español)ones), then opend2port-servidor.exe(Windows) ord2port-servidor(Linux). It opens the game in your browser athttp://localhost:8642/. Close its window to stop it. - Nothing is hosted online:
d2port-servidoronly answers this computer, and the game files stay yours (they must not be published). - Saved games go to the
savefolder, the same files as the PC version. - Local network works from the browser too. Browsers can't open those connections, so
d2port-servidordoes it for the page: create a game or join one with the Pis and PCs on your network (all on this version). When you create one, Windows may ask to letd2port-servidorthrough the firewall. - Keyboard or gamepad; F11 is full screen; the first key or click turns on the sound. Use a recent Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
- On a Mac (there is no
d2port-servidorfor it) any local web server works, but saved games then stay in the browser and there is no local network.
Local network fixes (all versions)
- When a machine left in the middle of a game, the host could keep waiting for it forever instead of saying it left. Now it says so.
- The answer to "are there games here?" was cut short and sent a few bytes too many.
Tested
On Windows: the browser created a game and d2port.exe joined it; d2port.exe created one and the browser found it by itself and joined. 15,000 ticks with a bot on each side: the browser computed exactly the same game as two d2port.exe (the state is compared every second; identical all the way). Saved games written to the folder, changing the language, and the page without d2port-servidor. Not tested yet: a browser and a Pi on a real network, Safari and phones.
Install / update
Download diablo2-port.zip (Pi and Linux), diablo2-port-windows.zip (Windows) or diablo2-port-web.zip (web browser) and replace the port; your saved games are kept. To play over the network, all machines need this same version.

v0.8.1: gamepads on handhelds
Gamepads that misbehave, common on handheld consoles. On top of v0.8.0.
Gamepads
- Sticks that don't rest at the center (like the analog sticks of the Anbernic RG35XX / RG40XX family, read by an uncalibrated converter) no longer make the character walk or the menu cursor scroll by themselves. The left stick counts once it has stayed still for a moment, and that spot becomes its center (it also follows the slow drift of these sticks). Before, a stick resting a little off center could look like "down" held all the time, and one resting further off center never worked at all.
- A stick that isn't there (an input that reads random values) is ignored.
- The same controller seen twice (two identical gamepads doing exactly the same thing at the same time) counts once: the copy no longer takes player 2, and the main menu counts one gamepad. If the copy is then used on its own, it counts as a real second controller.
- A button or direction already pressed when the gamepad connects still doesn't count until it is released, and a gamepad connected with something stuck is no longer counted as a second player.
- On the two-player character screen, if one of the two gamepads turns out to be a copy (or is disconnected), the players choose one after the other again instead of waiting for a second player.
Tested
With virtual gamepads that behave like those handhelds (a stick resting off center, a noisy stick near its edge, a floating stick, a controller seen twice, buttons held at connection): with v0.8.0 the character walked down by itself and the menu cursor ran away; now neither happens, and real pushes still move. One and two players choosing their characters, and the Pi, Linux and Windows builds.
Install / update
Download diablo2-port.zip (Pi and Linux) or diablo2-port-windows.zip (Windows) and replace the port; your saved games are kept. To play over the network, all machines need this same version.

v0.8.0: a longer Echo of Hatred, two players choosing at once, smoother ice caves
A longer Echo of Hatred with a break between waves, two players choosing their characters at the same time, smoother ice caves on the Pi, and monster fixes. On top of v0.7.1.
Echo of Hatred
- Ten waves per act (before, five), so there is time to level up before each boss: Andariel on wave 10, Duriel 20, Mephisto 30, Diablo 40 and Baal 50; the Pandemonium bosses from 60 to 100; a named boss on the sixth wave of each ten. The difficulty climbs per act as before, spread over twice as many waves (monsters gain a level every two waves).
- A wave ends when every monster is dead: once its quota is killed no more come, and the panel shows how many are left. The named boss has to be killed too.
- An 8-second break between waves, with a big countdown, to spend points and equip what you found; when it ends, whatever is still on the ground vanishes.
- 35% more potions than in the story (from monsters and from the final chest).
Two players
- With two gamepads connected, both choose their characters at the same time, each with its own cursor (gold for player 1, blue for player 2) and READY when chosen; a new character's class is chosen inside its own box, so both can create characters at once. The game starts when both are ready. With one gamepad they still choose one after the other.
Performance on the Pi
- The Act 5 ice caves (Crystalline Passage, Frozen River...) dropped a lot of frames with two players: building the "A: Talk to..." prompts compared every quest object's name against every unit, four times per frame. It now only looks at the units around each player. Drawing the HUD buttons over the darkness also got cheaper. In split screen inside the caves, a frame now takes 14-15.5 ms to draw instead of 21.5-23 ms, with exactly the same image.
Monsters
- Death Mauler: its underground claw attack now works as in the original: it digs, a trail of earth runs toward you and the claws burst out under you after a delay that grows with the distance (before, the claws appeared at its own feet and never hit).
- Act 2 vultures are visible while they fly (they still can't be hit until they land), with their flying and landing animations.
- Imps play their teleport animation.
Tested
The five acts with two players, the whole Echo of Hatred (fifty waves with one and two players, Baal and the Pandemonium cycle to wave 100), the character screen with two players (choosing, creating, the same character twice, changing, deleting, the local network), screenshots compared byte by byte before and after the performance changes, and the Pi, Linux and Windows still compute exactly the same game.
Install / update
Download diablo2-port.zip (Pi and Linux) or diablo2-port-windows.zip (Windows) and replace the port; your saved games are kept (Echo records were made with five waves per act). To play over the network, all machines need this same version.

v0.7.1: quest effects like the original, item comparison and visible sockets
Quest effects like the original, comparing items with what you wear, visible sockets, and fixes. On top of v0.7.0.
Quest effects
- The Cairn Stones: after the fifth stone the scene darkens, lightning runs along the ground between the stones drawing a pentagram, and big bolts strike all around; the red portal to Tristram opens 6.4 seconds in, with the timings of the original (
cairnstones), and the light comes back at the end. - Blood Raven's death: the bolts fly out from her body and strike all over the graveyard, not only on her.
- Den of Evil: when it is cleared, beams of light come down from the ceiling while the cave lights up.
Inventory
- Compare with what you wear (as in Diablo IV): with the cursor on an item that goes where you already wear something, its description shows next to the equipped one, tagged EQUIPPED, with how much damage, defense and block go up (green) or down (red). X swaps them: the item you take off lands in the same spot of the backpack, under the cursor, so X again swaps back.
- Sockets: with the cursor on a socketed item you see its sockets and what is in them, at the positions of the original. To socket: A picks up the gem, rune or jewel and A on an item with free sockets (it turns green and says "A: socket it").
- Item name colors as in the original: white for normal items, gems, potions and gold; grey for socketed normal items; blue magic; yellow rare; green set; gold unique, runewords and quest items; orange crafted items and runes.
- Split screen: each player's inventory and panels open on the side of the screen where that player's view is, and descriptions use the small font.
Other changes
- The Blizzard logos at startup play with their sound (the classic logo videos in D2R are silent, so the importer also converts D2R's logo video: the same two logos with their sound). Run the importer again to get it; without it the silent logos play as before.
- Any key, gamepad button or mouse click skips a cinematic (before, only A, B, Start or Esc).
- Monsters stuck against each other now get through, so more of them reach you around walls and in crowds.
- Picking up an item sounds different from dropping it, as in the original.
Tested
The five acts (one and two players), the Echo of Hatred and every class's skills, the new effects, inventory and sockets with AddressSanitizer and UBSan drawing every frame, a network game with two machines and four players, and the Pi, Linux and Windows still compute exactly the same game. On the Pi the darkened Cairn scene costs about 5 ms more per frame for those 12 seconds.
Install / update
Download diablo2-port.zip (Pi and Linux) or diablo2-port-windows.zip (Windows) and replace the port; your saved games are kept. To hear the logos, run the importer again (the cinematics you already have are not converted again). To play over the network, all machines need this same version.

v0.7.0: hold to attack, skill cooldowns, monsters that walk around obstacles
Hold a button to keep attacking, skill cooldowns, monsters that walk around obstacles, and a round of fixes found by testing the whole game. On top of v0.6.0.
Controls
- Hold A, B, X or Y to keep using its skill or attack, like holding the mouse button in the original: once each animation ends it is used again, so you do not have to press the button over and over. Talking, picking up items or using portals is not repeated, and nothing repeats while a panel or a dialog is open.
- If the skill cannot be used yet (not enough mana, cooldown) it keeps trying quietly, without filling the screen with messages.
Skills
- The skills with a cooldown in the original now have it for every class (before, only the Warlock's): Blizzard, Meteor, Frozen Orb, Fire Wall, Fist of the Heavens, Volcano, Shadow Warrior, the Druid's shapeshifts and the rest. The button darkens until it is ready.
Monsters
- When a wall, a house or a column is in the way, monsters walk around it to reach you (like the original, which follows the wall when the straight path is blocked) instead of pushing against it.
Fixes
- NPC dialogs no longer start with a number in English, German, French, Italian, Polish and Spain Spanish.
- Texts that showed in Spanish in the other languages are translated: the death message (now Resurrected's own "You have died"), the Act 5 quest messages, Larzuk's and Anya's panels. Anya's personalized items are named as in the original outside Spanish.
- The name of the monster you attack no longer covers the area and quest messages, and goes away when you leave its area.
- No black square while a buff icon loads; the Echo of Hatred messages under its panel have a background and stay on screen.
- The network log shows the real reason when a game cannot be joined.
Tested
The five acts with the eight classes (one and two players), the Echo of Hatred, every class's skills, 120 damaged saved games, network games where a machine drops, and random buttons on every menu and panel, also with AddressSanitizer and UBSan drawing every frame. The Pi, Linux and Windows still compute exactly the same game, so they can keep playing together.
Install / update
Same as v0.6.0: download diablo2-port.zip (Pi and Linux) or diablo2-port-windows.zip (Windows) and replace the port. No new game files are needed and your saved games are kept. To play over the network, all machines need this same version.
This is a fan-made project, not affiliated with Blizzard Entertainment.
v0.6.0: Windows, and the Pi, Linux and Windows playing together
The port now runs on Windows, and Pis, Linux PCs and Windows PCs can play together over the local network. On top of v0.5.1.
Windows
- Download
diablo2-port-windows.zipand extract it into a folder of its own. You need your own Diablo II: Resurrected installed. - Double-click
Import Diablo II (English).bat(or the Spanish one): it copies only the files the port uses from your Diablo II: Resurrected into that folder. - Double-click
d2port.exe. Windows may warn that it is an unrecognized app (it is not signed): More info → Run anyway. - It plays with a gamepad (the first one used is player 1) or with keyboard and mouse. F11 or Alt+Enter switch between window and full screen, and the window can be resized.
- The first time a PC creates a network game, Windows asks whether
d2port.exemay use the network: allow it on private networks.
The Pi, Linux and Windows in the same game
- Any mix of Pis, Linux PCs and Windows PCs can share a local network game (up to 8 players): they all compute the same numbers, bit by bit.
- Tested with the real Pi hosting a Linux PC and a Windows PC over Wi-Fi (6 players), and with the five acts and the Echo of Hatred giving exactly the same game on the three systems.
- All machines need this same version (v0.6.0). A machine with another version, or one that arrives when the game is full or already started, is now told why instead of just losing the connection.
- On PCs, the dungeon layouts (caves, Jail, Catacombs, sewers, tombs...) now come out the same as on the Pi for the same game.
Texts
- Every text fits its box in every menu and in the 13 languages (the English attributes page overflowed).
Install / update
- Pi: download
diablo2-port.zipand replace the port, as before. Your saved games are kept. - Two more interface files are used now (the quest log and waypoint tabs): run the importer again to get them. Without them the game still works.
