We have been using CC0 a lot on ours. However, some have pointed out that it isn't a real license - that it's just a waiver of rights. MIT is generally a good one for software that is very permissive. Do you have a preference?

You just need a LICENSE file in the root like https://github.com/ropensci/spocc/blob/master/LICENSE (but put your name in there), and in the DESCRIPTION file a line like https://github.com/ropensci/spocc/blob/master/DESCRIPTION#L7
