Hello!

Is there any interest or intention of bringing saltstack to Ubuntu Snappy?

@ketzacoatl, thanks for the request. Snappy support is definitely something we will want to have.

Great to hear @jfindlay! Question: has any existing work, or thought, been put into this? Maybe we can start with the concept of what the gap is, what would need to change to provide that support.

  • snappy packages for salt-minion/master/etc
  • modules/states for snappy's apt replacement, and likely other parts of the system (?) that would provide a smoother user-developer experience
  • ?

@ketzacoatl, I don't think any work has been done on this yet. This issue is a good place to start.

@ketzacoatl snappy support is on the eventual road-map, waiting to see what support it is getting in 16.04 LTS, but for the time being with the current backlog there has not been time to investigate it in depth, other than keeping abreast of articles on it.

Given that salt-pack is open source, contributions on packaging with snappy for Ubuntu would be more than welcome.

Hello, can someone reopen this issue? I'm looking to deploy LXD on my systems which requires snapd and AFAICT, support for snap package management never landed in Salt.

@strugee I am going to take a look at implementing 'snap.installed', as I would like it for a project I just started.
