selenium 2.39 unable to start firefox driver with firefox up gradation to 26.0

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. try to open fire fox webdriver


What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
firefox webdriver should be opened but instead it throws error and does not open webdriver


Selenium version:2.38 and 2.39
OS: OSX 10.8 and win7
Browser:firefox
Browser version:26.0

There is not enough information in the issue to act on.
We are sure FF26 is OK, you can check the current status on CI server [1]

the following piece of code worked, to set property for firefox26.0 path for selenium
2.36:

System.setProperty("webdriver.firefox.driver", firefox_path);

but it does not work with selenium 2.38 and selenium 2.39 on firefox26.0.
for selenium 2.38 and selenium2.39 firefox26.0  works only when the following change
is made from "webdriver.firefox.driver" to "webdriver.firefox.bin" i.e:
System.setProperty("webdriver.firefox.bin", firefox_path);

"webdriver.firefox.driver" is an internal property that was *always* used to set path
to a custom WebDriver plugin. It is not intended for production use.

We are using custom web driver only with some capabilities, How does it makes a difference
from two versions of Selenium, when we set System.setProperty("webdriver.firefox.driver",
firefox_path) with Selenium 26.0, it works without any issues, but when move to latest
version of selenium web driver like 2.38 or 2.39, it fails?but 
System.setProperty("webdriver.firefox.bin", firefox_path), this setting will work?Also
the default driver setup(capabilities =  DesiredCapabilities.firefox();) without setting
this property works across all the 2.3x selenium versions.If it is a change to be adopted
from Selenium version 2.37 onwards we can fix our framework code else please guide
us, how it is now unable to set the "webdriver.firefox.driver" property after the version
2.38 where as previous versions it is able to

https://code.google.com/p/selenium/wiki/FirefoxDriver wiki page does not mention "webdriver.firefox.driver"
property. It should not be used in production.

Morover, it is not recommended to use properties at all. If you want to specify a path
to a firefox binary you have to use FirefoxBinary class:

FirefoxBinary bin = new FirefoxBinary(new File("/path/to/fixefox"));
FirefoxProfile profile = new FirefoxProfile();
// add something to the profile
DesiredCapabilities caps = new DesiredCapabilities();
// set some additional capabilities
FirefoxDriver driver = new FirefoxDriver(bin, profile, caps);

Using the Java bindings to start Firefox 26 with 2.39.0, Firefox starts  but no page
loads. Test fail.

Starting driver:

WebDriver driver = new FirefoxDriver();

(No properties set.)

This is on Mac OSX 10.9.1. It worked prior to updating Firefox to version 26.
